Every child deserves support and a safe environment

ZImagine Serbia where every child has an equal chance to succed. At school, on the playground, at home - all children deserve support and a safe environment they need to grow, develop their talents and pursue their dreams.

However, the reality is different. Today in Serbia:

Behind these numbers are real children

  • only one in 17 people in Serbia is a child
  • 225.600 children live in poverty
  • 5.260 children grow up without parental care
  • around 60,000 preschool children live with developmental disabilities and difficulties
  • one in four schoolchildren feels sad once a week
  • almost one in two children aged 1-14 experiences violent discipline within the family
  • although 92% of Roma children start primary school, only 64% finish it
  • one in two girls from Roma settlements is married before reaching adulthood
  • 12% of children need additional support with learning
  • more than half of the most vulnerable children are functionally illiterate

Behind these statistics are real children - a boy who dreams of becoming an engineer but lacks access to the learning support he needs, or a girl who loves mathematics but requires additional support to reach her full potential.

Systemic changes for every child

Your support today helps build a stronger society tomorrow.

🌱

We drive systemic changes in early childhood development — because children who build strong foundations in their early years are more likely to succeed at school and throughout life.

💻

We work on promoting digital literacy and innovation in education — because every child should have access to the tools they need for the job market.

🏠

We support families at risk — because when families are stable, children have a safer childhood and better chances for the future.

🧠

We develop innovative services to strengthen the mental health of children and adolescents in communities across Serbia

UNICEF in Serbia supports vulnerable children and families — from assistance in emergencies and improving access to essential health services, to ensuring equal opportunities in education and addressing material, energy and digital poverty.

For nearly 80 years, we have been working to create lasting change for children. Together with our partners, we help build stronger communities, increase resilience and create a safer, more secure future where every child can learn, grow and thrive.
