What is the Friends of UNICEF Club?

The Friends of UNICEF Club is an opportunity for all socially-responsible companies to create, in partnership with us, better living conditions for every child in Serbia. The Club brings together likeminded people who believe that the business community has a task to provide an environment in which all children can thrive and grow up to be satisfied and fulfilled individuals who will one day be able to take over our roles and give their contribution to society.

Why is the Friends of UNICEF Club important?

  • As many as 8.3% of children in Serbia live in absolute poverty, and 24.2% are at risk of poverty
  • Only 11% of children from poor families attend kindergarten
  • 20% of children have not received all recommended vaccines
  • Only 11% of children from poor families attend kindergarten
  • 45% of childrenexperience violent disciplining at home, and in Roma settlements the percentage is 67%
  • The youth unemployment rate is 23%

In Serbia, there is still a large number of children and young people who are invisible and excluded from society, without any opportunity to exercise rights that belong to them. Support from Club members enables as many children as possible to attend kindergarten, have access to medical services and live protected in a nurturing family environment.

How do companies participate in the work of the Friends of UNICEF Club?

As with individual membership, Club partnership is based on monthly donations the amount and duration of which you set yourselves, in line with the means and wishes of your company. Monthly donations enable us to fight continuously to improve the position of children and young people, and they enable you and your company to channel your business operation in the best possible way for the benefit of the community.

The support we receive from the business community has shown to be an invaluable and irreplaceable driver for creating better conditions for children in Serbia and their families:

  • In the For 1,000 Families from the Edge campaign, the Catena Media company gave a financial donation which provided assistance to as many as 300 of the poorest families struggling to survive
  • Owing to a donation made by the Delhaize Serbia company for the So Small They Could Fit Inside a Heart campaign, the Centre for Neonatology in Kragujevac received a vehicle fitted with special equipment and designed to transport prematurely born and sick babies
  • Owing to donations made by the Schneider Electric company, the Institute for Health Care of Children and Youth of Vojvodina received as many as five devices enabling children with severe respiratory conditions to breathe.
