Every child is unique and precious. To grow and develop, it needs the warmth of love, care and strength, which they draw from their immediate surroundings.
Children seek security, comfort and support from their parents. Children’s perception of themselves, their identity and the world around them is based exactly on this early relationship with their caregivers. This relationship also lays the foundations for the skills they will need throughout life.
For a happy childhood, the most important things are the knowledge and skills that moms and dads use to support their child’s development – how to respond when a child has tantrums, when development doesn’t go as expected, when the child starts daycare or school, or when they test the limits of parental tolerance.
UNICEF is working to strengthen the family care system in which every door a parent knocks on is open. Together with its partners, UNICEF supports visiting nurses, pediatricians and preschool teachers, as well as the establishment of parenting schools to provide parents with support based on the latest scientific evidence on child development. It is extremely important that parents begin from day one to acquire the skills, positive attitudes and knowledge that will help them navigate challenging situations and realize how strongly and positively they can influence the future course of their child’s life.

Love and family support give children strength, stability and a sense of self-worth that will stay with them for life. We want the system of parental support not to be a maze, but to ensure that every door parents knock on opens and shows them the way to solving parenting dilemmas.
We need your support to provide parents with effective community services, support from visiting nurses, parenting schools and specially designed spaces in health centers where both children and parents will feel at home.
