So small they could fit inside a heart
Pomozite roditeljima da izvedu na put svoje mališane koji imaju poteškoće.
In neonatal intensive care units in Serbia, with or without the coronavirus, every day a struggle for survival unfolds. With great apprehension, once visiting hours are over, parents leave their tiny babies, knowing that the next day is critical. But the day after that is also critical, as is the first week, and there is total uncertainty until the first month of life. In this year, which is different in many ways, that struggle is even more dangerous and requires additional effort. Join us and, by making a donation, support the purchase of equipment which can change the course of the lives of prematurely born babies.
In Serbia, 65,000 babies are born every year. Of those, 4,000 are born prematurely. Premature birth is the main cause of death in newborns and children under the age of five.
Prematurely birth is a cause for great concern for parents and extended family. That is why we ask to join us in providing assistance to them when they need it most. Parents and their little giants need our support after leaving treatment as well, in order to progress like all other children. When they leave the hospital, another “round” of the fight begins for them, because that is when they need to address potential developmental challenges. Namely, prematurely born children have a greater risk of developmental delays and learning difficulties. Consequently, engagement and work with families aimed at facilitating early detection of developmental delays and timely intervention, are of the greatest importance for the development, health and future of the child, especially for prematurely born babies.
Together we have achieved a lot, and in the past five years we have significantly reduced the mortality rate of the youngest children in Serbia. In addition to equipping and modernising neonatal intensive care units, however, we wish to strengthen the support provided to babies and parents after leaving the hospital as well. That is when they most need experts to take care of the development and progress of their child, especially in the first years of life.
This equipment and technical trainings make a huge difference in the development of prematurely born babies.
They help prevent neurodevelopmental impairments, reduce the risk of socio-emotional issues, and enable mothers to breastfeed and facilitate lactation, thus helping to prevent the occurrence of cardiovascular illnesses and cancer.
